My Love/Hate Relationship with The Gym…

So I used to be an avid gym user with my friend Kim. We’d arrive around 5:15am to LA Fitness (once Urban Active) and workout together then she’d leave and I’d stay a bit longer. I hated waking up but once I arrived at the gym and started my workout, I was loving it.

Well, My friend Kim stopped her membership; therefore I stopped going. I have continued to pay for my membership, $26 each month, but haven’t been inside the gym in months…almost years. I didn’t want to stop my membership because I knew it would be more expensive if I canceled then purchased it again. My husband also told me that if I didn’t do another triathlon, he was going to require me to get my triathlon tattoo covered with cheeseburgers. This brings us to today…

I signed up for a triathlon earlier this year and knew I’d have to eventually make my way back to the gym. I purchased new running shoes this weekend and couldn’t wait to use them so I took the leap this morning. I laid out my clothes last night, put my new shoes in a bag and charged my phone for music. I woke up at 5:15…jumped out of bed, put my clothes on and went downstairs to my car. I realized half way to the gym that I didn’t remember my headphones…bummer! I entered the gym and thought the place would be struck my lightening…nope. I walked in and ran into some of my “old” gym friends. They still remembered me.

I was pumped to be there and pushed myself to run a mile. My triathlon consists of a 1/4 mile swim, a 12 mile bike and a 2 mile run and will take place in July. Swimming for me is the hardest and the most challenging portion of the triathlon for me. I dislike swimming but know that it’s the first part so I get it over with first.

I hope that today’s feelings stay with me so I will continue going to the gym. I must in order to be prepared for the triathlon. Thank you for listening…
