My Visit To The McVey Innovative Learning Center

Over my spring break I had to opportunity to make a trip to the McVey Innovative Learning Center (ILC) in Hilliard City Schools. I asked my friend, John Riley if I would be able to bop over one morning after I dropped my kids off to school. The ILC houses four different programs or academies…College Jump Start, Imagination Academy, Personal Success Network (PSN) and Young Professionals Academy. It was a morning of learning and observing. One of the district’s Special Education coordinators came to present to the juniors and seniors who are involved in the Young Professionals Academy.

It was very informative even for this veteran teacher. John showed me around so I was able to really get the feel of the environment and all the ILC has to offer. It is a great facility with many different options for students and educators a like. They have movable furniture which allows for different groupings, different learning spaces and for more flexibility. They are the second school in the United States to have a recording studio within the school district facilities and it’s utilized often.
