Two Thousand Fourteen (2014) introduced many new things into my life…Twitter, Voxer, PLN, blogging, heels and excessive chocolate. I am ready to continue the greatness and add more greatness to my life. Despite my best efforts, my children keep getting older as do I. I have discovered a world that is so much bigger than I ever imagined and I have Twitter and Voxer to thank. Becoming a Connected Educator has truly been the highlight of 2014.
Twitter: This past year I jumped into Twitter head first without a floatation device and I’m so glad! I became the resident expert on Twitter Chats in my district and even began a Twitter chat on April 17th. It was truly an honor to get it started and to moderate it weekly. Through Twitter I have met many great educators and administrators and have learned an immense amount. I don’t know how I lived without it! Shameless Plug: You can join in on our fun every Monday night at 7:30pm est at #DubChat.
Voxer: Voxer was an unknown for me as well…Who would have thought that my little phone could bring me such insight and knowledge from other educators from all over the world! What’s cool about voxer is that I can hear voices…no not the ones in my head but those of other educators trying to make a difference. I enjoy seeing and hearing about what others are doing at their schools and trying them myself. It’s a win, win.
PLN: I had no idea what PLN stood for before I was on Twitter…I actually had never heard of it until I was on Twitter. I’m sure if I stood up in a staff meeting and said it, no one would know what I was talking about. My PLN is far away but close to me through Twitter. It would be awesome to see more of my coworkers on Twitter and partaking in the knowledge and fun. I love growing my PLN and hope you are a part of it.
Blogging: I began blogging this summer…I had tried to venture into the blogging world before but did so with little direction and discipline. This time around I feel more determined to get my message out and to tell my story. I hope that my words hit home with some people, I hope it can help people grow as educators and I hope that sometimes it makes people laugh. Its my online diary of sorts…a place to let you know what’s going on in my educational career and beyond.
This year in 2015, I hope to continue growing as an educator and leader. I hope to be in a place where I can lead freely and outside the box of traditional education. I want to be on fire for my students and parents and be the advocate they deserve. I want everyone to know without me needing to say that…I appreciate them, honor them, care for and love them, need them, grow along side them and so much more…
